User Input Language Picker

Written by Eden Jenniches Perez

Overview

A language picker has been added to a number of settings across the platform. This means that, where you can edit text such as names, descriptions or terms and conditions, you can now specify which language that text is written in, and add versions of the same field in additional languages. This will be what you customers see on your shop front/ in email communication.

The settings below now include a language picker:

How it works (most settings)

Across almost all of the settings listed above, the language picker works the same way. Using an offering's detail settings as an example:

  1. Open the settings page for the item you want to edit (e.g. an offering, package choice, or membership type). In this example it is an appointment so you would head to Settings > Appointment types > select the appointment.

  2. At the top of the field group, you'll see a language dropdown. By default, this is set to English (Default).

  3. Edit the fields as normal. Whatever you type will be saved against the language currently selected in the dropdown.

  4. To add or edit a translation, use the dropdown to switch to another language, then fill in the fields for that language.

Example: the language picker on an offering's Details tab, currently set to English (Default).

Important

English (Default) must always be kept filled in. This is the fallback shown to any customer whose language isn't otherwise available.

Adding a translation does not replace the English fields — it adds an additional version alongside them.

Special case: Marketing preferences

Marketing preferences work differently from every other setting in this list. Existing preferences (such as Email, Call and SMS) cannot be edited or translated directly, instead, a separate preference must be created for each additional language you want to support.

To add a translated marketing preference:

  1. Head to Settings

  2. Marketing preferences

  3. Click Add new preference.

  4. Select the language the new preference's text will be written in.

  5. Enter the Name (this is the text your customers will see.)

  6. Click Create.

The 'Add new preference' dialog, showing the language selector.

Once created, translated preferences appear alongside the originals in the list, each labelled with its language. Preferences that haven't been given a translation are marked as Not localised.

Marketing preferences list showing English originals ('Not localised') alongside Spanish translations ('Español').

Each language version can be enabled or disabled for the site independently, in the same way as the original preferences.

Things to be aware of

1. Existing content defaults to English

By default, all existing fields are treated as English — including on sites where the fields were originally written in another language. There is no automatic way to detect or migrate this.

Sites in this situation have two options:

  • Select the correct language in the dropdown themselves and re-enter the text under that language — making sure the required English (Default) fields are also kept filled in; or

  • Contact support to have this corrected on their behalf.

2. TRYBE Intelligence is English-only for now

TRYBE Intelligence (e.g. AI-suggested descriptions) is not currently supported for any language other than the default English. This may be revisited in future.

Need help?

If your existing fields were written in a language other than English and you'd like these corrected, or if you have any other questions about this feature, please reach out to your support team.
