How to Set Up and Issue RMT Receipts

Overview

Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) in Canada need to issue receipts clients can submit for insurance reimbursement and tax purposes. These receipts include details a standard receipt doesn't, such as the therapist's registration number and treatment dates and durations.

This guide covers three things: turning on the feature, setting up your practitioners and appointment types, and issuing an RMT receipt to a guest.

This feature is only available on sites located in Canada, and it needs to be switched on for your account before you'll see it. If you don't see the options described below, contact Trybe support to have RMT receipts enabled.

Step 1: Add a registration number and signature to each practitioner

Before an RMT receipt can be generated, each practitioner offering massage therapy needs their professional registration number and signature on file.

  1. Go to the practitioner's profile in your site settings.

  2. Open the edit view for that practitioner.

  3. Enter their registration number in the Registration Number field.

  4. Upload a digital copy of their signature

  5. Save the profile.

If a practitioner's registration number is missing, their name will still appear on the receipt, but with a warning instead of a number. Add it before the appointment so the guest gets a complete receipt.

Step 2: Mark appointment types as RMT-eligible

Only appointment types you flag as RMT-eligible will show up on an RMT receipt. This keeps unrelated services, like facials or yoga, off a massage therapy receipt.

  1. Go to your appointment types in site settings.

  2. Open the appointment type used for massage therapy treatments (for example, "60-Minute Massage").

  3. In the Details section, turn on the option marking it as eligible for RMT receipts.

  4. Save your changes.

  5. Repeat for every appointment type that should be included on an RMT receipt.

An order with no RMT-eligible appointment types will show a receipt with a "no eligible services found" notice instead of treatment details.

Step 3: Print or email an RMT receipt

Once a practitioner has a registration number and the appointment type is flagged as eligible, you can issue a receipt for any completed order.

  1. Open the client's order.

  2. Select the option to print or email the RMT receipt.

  3. Choose to print a copy for the patient or email it directly to them.

What's included on the receipt

Each RMT receipt includes:

  • Site name and address

  • Client name

  • Order reference and issue date

  • Each treatment: service name, date, start and end time, duration, practitioner name, registration number, and signature

  • Subtotal, tax, and total charges, with a tax breakdown

  • Any vouchers applied, shown as a deduction from the total the patient paid

Clients can submit this receipt to their insurance provider or use it for their tax records.

Troubleshooting

  • Don't see the RMT receipt option at all? Confirm your site's address is set to Canada, and check with Trybe support that the feature is enabled for your account.

  • Receipt shows a missing registration number? Add it to the practitioner's profile (Step 1) before reissuing the receipt.

  • Receipt shows no treatments? Confirm the appointment type used for that booking is marked RMT-eligible (Step 2).
